Natural Paints fall into two groups - those made from plant derived materials and those made from minerals. Plant based paints are very environmentally friendly and are solvent free, but they do give off some natural VOCs such as those from orange and other essential oils. Mineral based paints, such as the Beeck silicate range on this site, are very healthy as they contain no solvents and give off no VOCs, but they are made from natural minerals which have to be mined, although they tend to be very plentiful... quartz for example.

Both types are infinitely better for both our health and the environment than conventional petro chemical based paints, of which every well known high street brand is an example. They're also far better for buildings as they're vapour permeable and so allow walls to 'breathe'. In fact all our paints are fully vapour permeable; 'breathable'.

 Auro are particularly fastidious about the methods used to produce their paints.The natural raw materials they use come from sustainably managed, organically grown sources as local to the factory as possible and any waste product is composted. The factory is even powered by renewable energy sources.
The product range is well suited to the DIY user as well as the professional. The products covered in this section include Paints and Primers for plaster, wood and metal. They are all based on natural ingredients including minerals, clays, and plant oils such as linseed, orange, eucalypyus and rosemary. All ingredients are fully disclosed on the technical sheets on this site. The use of natural and plant based ingredients means that allergy sufferers are more able to tolerate Auro solvent free paints which do not contain biocides and have become the standard for medical, hypoallergenic and child friendly environments. Auro paints have been tried and tested successfully for over 20 years in both trade and domestic use. Auro continue to ensure the durability of their products through comprehensive testing and quality control and their paints meet the 2010 EU paints directive.
Auro emulsions come in white or in factory tinted colours according to the colour chart relevant to the paint in question. Or perhaps you'd prefer to tint them yourdself using Auro colour concentrates.

Introduced in the late sixties, AGLAIA products are manufactured using only natural ingredients and traditional formulations that have been further developed using modern chemistry techniques to minimise environmental impacts, to have no adverse impact on our health, and to allow walls to breathe more easily. They are made from abundant minerals and renewable crop resources, where all of the manufacturing waste is composted.
The Aglaia product range is wider than the Auro range mentioned above and includes products which are a more specialised rather than being multi purpose. As well as paints and primers for walls, the range also covers wood and metal paints including glazes, distemper and casein, penetrating and isolating primers, corrosion protection paints and masonry sealers.
Declarations of all ingredients used in Aglaia products are in the technical sheets which can be downloaded from this site, so allergy sufferers can identify any risks. Aglaia Coloured paints are factory toned colours using a combination of eight base colour tones with the base white. These tones can be bought as Aglaia Full Colour Wall Paints which can be used to tint the white emulsions. Alternatively, the factory toned colours come in the Coastal colour range and the Historic colour range for a period feel. So you can select a ready made colour or simply mix your own.

For more than 100 years BEECK Mineral Paints have been a synonym for unsurpassed lightfastness, water vapor permeability and durability. What has always been and still is the best for historic structures is also perfect for modern architecture in terms of aesthetics, ecology, and cost-effectiveness.
Beeck paints are more specialised mineral based silicate paints and other products for plaster, concrete and natural stone. These paints don't form a film over the substrate to which they're applied, as most paints do, but 'bond' chemically with the substrate. This process, called silicification, ensures unsurpassed durability and lightfastness even on completely weathered facades and historic structures. Think of it as 'staining' the substrate rather than painting over it. The result is not only a finish of unequalled colour quality but also resilience - even the most powerful grafitti remover won't damage this paint.
Beeck Silicate Paints are totally waterproof and yet are as breathable as Limewash. They cannot be applied to waterproof surfaces though, as they need access to the substrate in order to bond....although special primers are available to provide this. Where the substrate is waterproof, such as old acrylic paint, BEECK Restoration Paint is suitable without a primer.
This product range would most likely, but not of course exclusively, be of interest to professional Decorators, Builders, Architects and Architectural specifiers with a need for breathable silicate based masonry paints and a range of specialist treatments for Concrete, Lime, Mineral Plaster and Brick substrates. These include stone cleaners, anti-graffiti paints, concrete glazes and other restoration and conservation materials.

St ASTIER Lime Paints
  Natural hydraulic limes from the St Astier area have a history dating back to Roman times. Many of these ancient building still survive today and a great many are still in use. Whether it is a cottage in the hills or a great cathedral from the medieval period, St Astier natural hydraulic lime can be found, still in place, unaltered by the centuries, still performing well, testimony to durability and quality.
St Astier Lime Paint differs from ordinary limewash in that it contains a very small proportion of acrylic [less than 3%]. Whilst this may seem to be compromising the standards expected of natural paints, it is a compromise worth making as it renders the paint far easier to use and much more reslilient than conventional limewash, meaning that more people can use it and it will last much longer.
Vibrant and beautiful, the Le Décor - St. Astier lime paint range is the perfect compliment to lime plaster and is also suitable for most backgrounds including gypsum plasters, drywall, lining paper, cement and lime backgrounds, bricks, blocks and untreated timber.
